- LOCATION
Go to the Beach! Just a few minutes' drive away - and what beaches they are too. Sarakiniko is one of the best on the island although there are many others that you must visit during your stay.
Dine in Style in Vathi At the newly opened Liberty restaurant, which is part of the Omericon Hotel on the outskirts of Vathi harbour. An excellent restaurant, with superb service, a wonderful chef and a fine wine list.
Take a Ferry Boat to the Mainland Astakos is about two hours away on the ferry boat. This is a traditional Greek mainland village, but it is also popular for its lobsters!!! Well worth the boat trip just for the lunch, and of course you get excellent views on the way over on the ferry.
Greek Wine Greece (and Ithaca) does not offer many recognised wines but they are nevertheless popular and well known domestically. The village of Perachori offers the best locally produced wines in Ithaca
Mountain Drive If you don't mind winding, twisting roads and love impressive scenery, then drive to the Katharon monastery on Mount Neridos. The views out over Vathi from the top are simply outstanding. Remember your camera.
Visit Another Island - Lefkas (well, it's not exactly an island as it's attached by a short thread of land to the mainland - an ongoing argument/discussion amongst locals for years!). Well worth the journey for the ferry trip alone. The views of the small islands that you pass on the way are amazing, and you're likely to see some dolphins or porpoises along the way.
Go Ride a Bike for a Day - in Kefalonia! Take the short ferry ride over to Kefalonia, rent a bike from one of the tourist offices in Sami and off you go. There are a lot of great places to visit within a short cycle ride.
Visit the Charming Hilltop Village of Anoghi Wonder around its largely deserted lanes and look for the 15th century church. One of the oldest villages on the island, it was once a fortified settlement. It is a wonderful village for taking unusual and unique photographs, thanks to the amazing unusual rock formations in its vicinity.
Visit Another Island for the Day - Kefalonia Kefalonia is the llargest of the 7 Ionian Islands and there is so much to see here that you will only be able to scratch the surface in a day. The Drogarati Caves, Melissani Lake and Antisami Beach are all within a 10 minute drive of the port of Sami whilst Myrtos Beach is only a 20 minute drive away, so you don't have to spend much time in the car unearthing some of this island's many treasures.
Indulge Yourself in Frikes The bustling harbour front in this quaint little village is the perfect venue to sit and unwind at one of the many lovely waterfront tavernas.
Sip Coffee in the Square at Vathi Do as the Greeks do: sit in a café in the square and drink a coffee. The square in Vathi is a delightful spot to enjoy a frappé and people watch.
Simply Laze by the Pool in the Sunshine cooled by a gentle mountain breeze before rolling into the water for a lazy swim - feel life's stresses peel away.
Take a Trip to the Onassis Islands This is a great day out, take the organised excursion from Vathi harbour, so that you can just sit back and relax. Before arriving at the islands of Skorpios and Meganisi, where the Onassis family spent much of their time, you are more than likely to be accompanied by a few dolphins and/or porpoises along the way.
Hire a Boat for the Day Another 'must do'. You can rent these easily from the seaside villages of Vathi and Kioni, a fabulous way to spend a day. Please don't forget to take your sun tan lotion, and remember to rub liberally on your face and the tops of your knees!!!
Snorkelling If you would like to do a bit of snorkelling in clear, deep waters, go to Filiatro Bay where the water is beautifully clear. We understand that the best areas to snorkel are at either end of the bay, near to the protective rocks that fringe it so perfectly.
Homer Have a Homer day: try to visit all the sites and learn as much as you can about this most famous poet and myth teller.
Combine a Swim with History Go for a swim at Ithaca's blue flag beach, and when the time comes for some respite it's just a 5 minute drive up to the Cave of the Nymphs, made famous by that man Homer again!
Dine in Style At the excellent Polyphemus Restaurant in Stavros. A real culinary delight in one of the best restaurants in Ithaca. Best to book in the high season.
Enjoy Souvlaki in Perachori! Marinated pork grilled on skewers. One of the many Greek specialities and, in Perachori, they have the best souvlaki on the island. Try them with an accompanying Greek salad and a bottle of retsina - wonderful!
Have a Great Day Out on 8th September At the Monastery of Kathara, high up on Mount Neritos, to celebrate the name day of the island's protector Saint, Kathariotissa.

| LOCATION INFORMATION |
Ithaki, this small island with its great history owes its glamour to its King Ulysseus and to its priceless natural beauty. It is synonymous with the feeling of nostalgia and with the fulfilment of the targets we set in our lives. It is situated to the east of Chephalonia with a maximum length of 29 kms and a maximum width of 6.5 kms. Its coastline is 45 nautical miles. It is 45 nautical miles away from Patras and 20 nautical miles from Astakos.
There is a boat to Ithaki from Patras twice a day (13:30 and 19:30) and once (12:40) or twice a day from Astakos.. Also, there is a boat from Nidri (08:00) and Vassiliki,Lefkas (18:00) every day and from Chephalonia several times a day. Ithaki is a green island, full of olive and oak trees. Morphologically,it is mountainous - with its highest mountain being Nirito (808 m) - and wild but not without even and cultivated areas. The coast is full of small or big bays, some of which are natural ports. Also, there are innumerable dentelated beaches, whose major characteristic is not the size but the clear bluegreen sea. All the roads on Ithaki are asphalted and you can have access to the beaches. Generally, the distances are short and you'll be able to approach most of the villages and even the most far off beaches comfortably. There are ten villages: Perachori,Saint John,Lefki,Stavros,Exoghi,Anoghi,Platrithias,Frikies,Kioni and Vathi.
The capital of Ithaki is Vathi,a wonderful natural sport. Once you enter Vathi, you are fascinated by the natural beauty around you, which is enhanced by the tiled-roofs of the houses that have been built around the port or go up the overgrown hills, undoubtedly creating a tempting picture. This has been the capital of Ithaki since the 16th century. In Vathi you can visit the Archaeological Museum, the Folklore Museum, the Homeric Nymphae's Cave, the Venetian cannons and other archaeological sights where excavations have been made and there are certain findings.
